Nature Notes

January in Ontario

It's cold today and Environment Canada is promising it will be colder by the end of the week. For the first half of January, central Ontario was spoiled with warmer weather than usual, but that's over now. It's time for anyone spending time outdoors to wear a few warm layers of clothing!

Largest square: hairy woodpecker hunting for tasty bugs. Moving clockwise: male cardinal, muskrat house in frozen marsh, nearly frozen creek, female cardinal and overcast skies over Lake Ontario at Thickson's Point.

We are in Vermont - darn cold here!

Love your proud male cardinal. The female looks cold. She's got this look on her face.

Beautiful winter shots. The male cardinals are shown to advantage against snow.

Being in the tropics who hasn't experienced natural snow, i feel so cold for the birds. I wonder why they prefer the winter climate rather than the tropics where they will be more comfortable, hahaha!

Zima jest straszna dla ptaków. Mam nadzieję, że dadzą sobie radę. Śliczny kolarz. Pozdrawiam.
Winter is terrible for birds. I hope you give the advice. Lovely cyclist. Yours.

I do wonder how birds get through winters like this - remarkable really.

I did end up with a lot of shots that went straight to the bin!!

Cheers

nice nature shots. Reminded me that I forgot about NN this week.

My avourite today is the little stream.

That male cardinal looks majestic.

It has gotten so much colder now and I am sure the wildlife isn't happy. The muskrats who used to be on the pond (before the mink) built into the bank and over the years made it quite large.. Lovely mosaic EG.. Michelle
