Carriage/ Mid-Week Blues

Carriage at Coldwater Canadiana Heritage Museum, Coldwater, Ontario

Still in great condition, until I saw this one it never occurred to me that a horse-drawn carriage might be blue. How silly of me to believe that all of them were black, don't you think?

G/ ABC Wednesdays

G is for GRASS, GREEN and GOOD news

This is a view looking easterly towards Peterborough, Ontario. True, the grass is yellow not green, but the good news is the trees will still be green for a few more weeks.

Nifty Neato/ Microfiction

With apologies to the Fab Four:

Eight days a week it was a hard days night along the long and winding road to Coolville, but I've got a feeling here comes the sun.

Osprey Nest/ Scenic Sunday

Just the nest, the osprey have flown

For me, 2010 has been the year to find and photograph an osprey. My lens has captured a few but I still have not taken the perfect shot. So the search is still on.

Subtle Sunset/ Sky Friday

Late summer sunset over Mount Albert (East Gwillimbury) fields

Low clouds on the horizon meant we wouldn't actually SEE the sun set but we did see the light shining on the clouds above.

Bus Stop/ Mid-Week Blues

A roof over kids' heads

Little houses at the end of long driveways are common in rural Ontario. They are mostly ised in winter or on rainy days by kids waiting for their school buses.  Looks like someone will be mowing around this one soon. School starts the day after Labour Day.

Lifeguard/ Ruby Tuesday

On duty but all wrapped up

This poor lifeguard looks like she needs to be rescued from either too much sun (on a cloudy day) or  chilly air.

Blanket flower/ Mosaic Monday

Blanket flowers (Gaillardia) - escapees from garden - seen at the edge of the road

Drought-tolerant blanket flowers bloom in July and August, several patches growing wild alongside an East Gwillimbury road.

Winslow's Diet/ Microfiction

Hmmm! You say you say you followed this Slim Pickins Diet to the letter, Winslow? Methinks you took it a tad too far.

Footbridge Over Canal/ Sunday Bridges

Walkway when the lock gates on the Trent-Severn Waterway are closed

You don't have to walk on water to cross the canal at each of the 44 locks on the Trent-Severn Waterway.  When the lock gates are closed you can cross from one side to the other.

Reflection of one of the bridges at the Cambellford Lock

Here the lock is full and ready to be opened so boats can travel westerly through the waterway. Anyone who wants to cross on foot had better hurry!

Added later: The gate swings, opening in the centre.

Fooled You Moment /Sky Friday

Looking back as we headed for home

This was another one of those evenings when we thought there would be little or no sunset. Luckily we turned our heads to see this! Doesn't this kinda look like the barn is on fire?

Weekdays at the Dock/ Mid-week Blues

Waiting for the weekend, hoping the weather stays this sunny

Imagine being a sailboat that stays in its slip on sunny days during the week only to be let out for fun on overcast weekends. The only consolation: it is NOT alone!

Covered Bridge/ Sunday Bridges

An old idea, but actually new

This covered bridge is meant to lend old-fashioned charm to a brandnew upscale suburban neighbourhood. It fooled my husband and me from the distance but once across the bridge and into the new subdivision we realized this is a clever marketing device. It works well with the neighbourhood.

Partial Rainbow/ Ski Friday

Looking easterly just before sunset

It was a strange mix of overcast and sunshine, much clearer in the east than in the west. But then the sun shone through for a minute or two and produced this  colourful display.

Does anyone know that this burst of colour is called?

update: It's a SUNDOG! Thanks, MB!
